Rule by rule
| Rule | Shopee says | From the tool |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Square, 1:1. A 3:4 portrait version is optional.23 | 1:1 or 3:4 |
| Smallest size | 500 × 500 pixels for the cover photo.1 | 1024 × 1024 |
| File | JPG or PNG, no larger than 2 MB.4 | JPG under 500 KB |
| Cover background | Plain white or one single colour. A real setting also counts when it has no more than three main colours.2 | White |
| Product in the picture | At least 70% of the cover photo, and no more than 90%.12 | 84% along its longest side |
| Whole product | All of the product in view. Photos that zoom in until part of it is missing do not pass.2 | Kept whole, centred |
| Borders | No white bars around a photo that does not fill the frame.2 | One background, no bars |
Shopee does not say how it measures the 70%. The tool measures along the product’s longest side.
Still yours to check
The tool cannot retake a photo. These rules depend on the picture you start with.
- Use a front view or a 30-degree angle for the cover.1
- Keep the photo sharp. The product needs a clear outline with no pixelation.2
- Keep text, graphics and watermarks off the product. Together with props, they may cover no more than 25% of the background.12
- Upload up to nine photos for each product, cover included. Duplicates count as one.12
What about 3:4?
Shopee also offers a 3:4 portrait display. Tick “3:4 Image” when you add or edit a listing, and Shopee crops your upload to fit. The tool makes that shape too: once your photos are fixed, tap 3:4 above the download button and you get 1080 × 1440 with the whole product inside. Shopee’s quality guide writes this second ratio as 4:3.32
